Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has launched the Ziwani- Lungalunga market road rehabilitation that serves traders at the Lungalunga bus terminus in Vanga ward and the larger Lungalunga Sub-county.
This move is aimed at improving accessibility and boosting local businesses and transport.
Speaking during the launch, Achani said her administration is committed to enhancing infrastructure to support economic growth in the region.
“This access road is important for our traders, farmers, and residents who rely on it daily to transport goods and access essential services. By rehabilitating it, we are ensuring smoother movement, reduced transport costs, and overall economic empowerment for our people,” she said
The road, which has been in a bad state, has been posing challenges to market traders, especially during the rainy season.
Local business owners and residents welcomed the rehabilitation efforts, expressing optimism about improved trade and livelihoods.
Juma Kalimbo, a trader at the market, lauded the county government’s intervention.
“For years, we have struggled with muddy and dusty conditions, making it difficult to transport our produce and our customers to access goods and services. This project will make a huge difference for us,” he said.
The rehabilitation project under Lungalunga Municipality is part of the county’s broader initiative through the Department of Lands Environment and Natural Resources to enhance road networks across Kwale.
