Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has urged young people not to be swayed by political waves, cautioning them against being used as tools to push selfish agendas.
Speaking in Kwale County, Mvurya emphasized the importance of critical thinking, urging the youth to interrogate issues before forming opinions or taking action.
He said that before young people direct their frustrations toward the government, they should seek to understand the root causes of the problems affecting them.
“Before you sing Ruto must go, first understand how it began and who is pushing for that,” he said.
Mvurya told the youth not to just jump onto political bandwagons driven by individuals with hidden motives.

He said some of those people fighting the president and his government are only after their own gain and do not have best interests at heart.
The CS encouraged young people to focus on building their capacities through government initiatives such as the Kenya, Wazo program, Nyota, the Talanta Hela, and other state-led empowerment platforms aimed at improving livelihoods and nurturing talent.
He noted that youth form the backbone of the country’s development and must rise above political noise to become agents of positive change.
Mvurya added that the ministry is open to dialogue and welcomes constructive criticism aimed at improving service delivery, but warned against misinformation and incitement.
He stressed that the government is committed to having youth be informed, empowered, and become patriotic citizens adding that is how a resilient and prosperous nation is built.
Mvurya further urged the youth to maintain high levels of discipline and integrity, especially in their online engagements.
He advised young people to make productive use of social media platforms by leveraging them for income-generating activities rather than using them to insult or defame others.
“Social media is a powerful tool that can transform lives if used wisely. I encourage you to explore digital entrepreneurship, content creation, and online marketing instead of wasting time spreading hate, false information and drawing people in coffins,” he said.

The CS warned that misuse of digital platforms not only destroys reputations but can also lead to legal consequences, ultimately ruining future opportunities.
He reminded the youth that their online footprints matter and can impact their careers, education, and social relationships.
Mvurya also emphasized the role of digital responsibility in national unity, urging the youth to promote peace, dialogue, and factual communication in both virtual and real-life spaces.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani also issued a stern warning to individuals allegedly using the youth to attack the Kenya Kwanza administration for political gain.
Achani criticized such actions as regressive and counterproductive, saying they not only mislead young people but also derail the country’s development agenda.
She defended President William Ruto’s leadership, stating that despite the economic challenges facing the country, the head of state has made significant efforts to promote peace, stability, and development across various sectors.
“The President has really tried to steer the country forward under very tough circumstances. Instead of being used to push political propaganda, our youth should focus on tapping into the many empowerment programs being rolled out by the government,” she said.
She called for unity and patriotism, urging leaders to guide young people toward nation-building rather than using them as tools for political wars.
