The Government has allocated over Sh 600 billion to the education sector in the 2025/2026 financial year.
Speaking during the commissioning of a school dormitory at Moyeni Girls in Kinango, Kwale County Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said the government is committed at eliminating long-standing structural barriers and expanding access to quality learning across the country.
He said the massive funding boost aligns with President William Ruto’s pledge to transform the education landscape.
Mvurya said that the ongoing teacher recruitment exercise is addressing county-level shortages to ensure all schools are adequately staffed.
“Since last year, 76,000 teachers have been hired, and we expect to bring on board another 24,000 next year. That means we will meet the President’s 100,000-teacher employment promise a year ahead of schedule,” said Mvurya.
CBC Now on Course
On the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Mvurya acknowledged earlier confusion during the transition but said the system has since stabilized.

He said the President intervened and provided direction and that teachers now understand the path from Junior Secondary to university level,” he said.
He noted that enhanced NG-CDF allocations have accelerated school infrastructure development nationwide and expressed confidence in the transformative potential of education.
“I believe the students of Moyeni Girls will go on to become future leaders. Education is the foundation of that journey,” he said.
Meanwhile Mvurya donated Sh 200,000 to cover immediate needs for Moyeni Girls and buy beddings for the newly launched dormitory.
The CS further donated 10 balls and 10 jazz uniforms to Moyeni Girls and extended a similar gesture to Nzovuni Secondary School.
MP’s Intervention
Kinango MP Gonzi Rai pledged to furnish Moyeni Girls School and also buy a school bus to ease transport challenges and support extracurricular activities.

He praised the school’s new CBC-aligned focus on arts and sports but also reminded students of the need for academic diligence.
County Executive for Public Service and Administration Karua Tsiweza emphasized the importance of protecting and mentoring girls in boarding schools.
“These students need safe environments and strong guidance from teachers to help them grow into responsible citizens,” she said.
School principal Pamela Luchemo expressed gratitude to NG-CDF for supporting the dormitory project but raised concerns about staff accommodation and inadequate sporting infrastructure.
“Currently, only I and the matron reside on school at night. We need at least two more houses for senior staff to ensure students are never left alone,” she said.

She also appealed for government support to improve the school’s sports field, in line with the CBC arts and sports pathway.
