Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President, Dr. Abdul Mwasera, has urged young people to shun crime and drug abuse, warning that such habits continue to lock them out of life-changing opportunities.
Speaking during a football tournament at the Kombani Grounds in Kwale County, Dr. Mwasera expressed concern that many youth are still falling victim to drugs and criminal activities despite repeated awareness campaigns.
“The issue of drugs and crime is not good, and it doesn’t help,” he said. “Recently, a few youths were disqualified from joining the KDF because of drug use.” he saaid.

The tournament, organized by Dr. Mwasera as part of his youth empowerment initiatives, brought together teams from the region in an effort to nurture talent and promote positive engagement among the youth.
He emphasized the need for young people to focus on developing their skills, embracing discipline, and leading peaceful lives to become responsible citizens.
Dr. Mwasera further urged the youth to be ambassadors of peace and to seize opportunities availed to them by both the county and national governments.
He noted that meaningful change begins with individual commitment and positive choices.
Dr Mwasera said leaders have opened doors for the youth and will continue supporting them to realize their dreams, but added that young people must also play their part in shaping their future.

He encouraged youth to register for national identity cards and to enlist as voters, saying real change can only be achieved through active participation in democratic processes.
“You are saying ‘two terms,’ but that won’t be possible if you have not enlisted yourself as a voter,” he said.
County Commissioner David Rotich also warned the youth against drug and substance abuse.
He urged those still involved in criminal activities to reform before the law catches up with them.
“For the few indisciplined youths who are still engaging in crime, consider quitting. We will not tolerate criminal activities, and we will deal with you in accordance with the law,” he said.

Rotich acknowledged that a few cases of insecurity are still being reported in Tiwi and Ukunda, but said the situation is under control.
The County Commissioner urged the youth to take advantage of available opportunities to improve their lives.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani also commended the efforts of various stakeholders in transforming the lives of young people.
She said the county government, in partnership with the national government, is constructing football academies in Matuga and Kinango as part of broader efforts to nurture talent and steer youth away from crime and drug abuse.

“In Kwale, we have Matuga and Taru where football academies are currently under construction specifically to nurture talent and empower our youth,” she said.
