For years, residents of Vuga in Tsimba Golini Ward have grappled with insecurity and fear after dark. That is now set to change following the launch of a 30-street-light project by Fatuma Achani.
The initiative, unveiled in Matuga Sub-county, aims to address rising safety concerns while opening up the area for economic activity at night.
Speaking during the launch, Achani said the installation of the street lights will help restore safety and confidence among residents who have long struggled with poor lighting.
“This street-lighting project will significantly improve security in Vuga, especially at night, and create a safer environment for our people,” said Achani.
She added that beyond improving security, the lights will provide traders with an opportunity to extend their working hours and grow their businesses.

“Our traders will now be able to operate for longer hours, which will boost their income and strengthen the local economy,” she noted.
Residents, led by Mariam Honza, welcomed the project, saying it directly responds to their long-standing concerns about insecurity in the area.
“This project is a big relief to us. It will not only improve security but also help grow Vuga town and expand business opportunities for many residents,” said Honza.
Honza further expressed hope that the project will attract more development and urged the county government to replicate similar initiatives in other parts of Kwale County.
